The viral pictures have sparked curiosity among cricket lovers and movie fans alike, especially as Rao appears to be fully immersing himself in the role of one of India’s most celebrated cricket captains.

According to reports, the film’s Mumbai schedule has already been completed, and the cast and crew have now shifted to Kolkata for an intensive 15-day shoot. The city plays an important role in Ganguly’s story, and the filmmakers are reportedly shooting across real-life locations closely associated with his early life and cricketing journey. Rajkummar Rao was seen training and working out at Kolkata Maidan before filming, showcasing the preparation that went into portraying the former cricketer authentically. The film is expected to trace SouravGanguly’s remarkable rise from the streets of Behala to becoming one of the most influential captains in Indian cricket history.

Reports suggest that filming began at Ganguly’s residence in Behala. The team also shot important sequences at Kolkata’s historic East Bengal Club grounds, recreating the phase when Ganguly played for Aryan Club during his younger days. Several portions of the biopic have additionally been filmed at the legendary Eden Gardens stadium. Interestingly, some scenes were shot soon after the IPL 2026 season concluded at the stadium, allowing the makers to capture the stadium’s grandeur. Reports also suggest that SouravGanguly visited parts of the shoot, both at his residence and at Eden Gardens, further fueling excitement around the project.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker VikramadityaMotwane, Dada: The SouravGanguly Story aims to go beyond just cricket statistics and match victories. The film is expected to explore Ganguly’s personal life, including his relationship with his wife, Dona Ganguly. Actor Tanya Maniktala will portray Dona in the film. To maintain authenticity and reflect Ganguly’s Bengali roots, several well-known Bengali actors have been cast in key roles. AparajitaAdhya is expected to play Ganguly’s mother, NirupaGanguly, and Saswata Chatterjee will portray Ganguly’s father, ChandiGanguly. While music for the film will be composed by Pritam.
