The two cricketing icons have received a proposal from actor Abhishek Bachchan, who co-owns the European T20 Premier League, an upcoming T20 league.
ViratKohli and Rohit Sharma have recently received a proposal for their post-retirement career from actor Abhishek Bachchan, who is also the co-owner of an upcoming T20 League, the European T20 Premier League (ETPL).
Abhishek Bachchan urges Rohit and Kohli to be a part of ETPL’s set-up.
The collective focus of ViratKohli and Rohit Sharma as of now remains on the 2027 World Cup in South Africa. However, a couple of stakeholders have already shown interest in getting them on board after their retirement from ODI cricket. While nothing can be said about Kohli and Rohit not continuing to play for India after the ICC tournament in South Africa, the fact that they would be 40 and 41, respectively, may make it highly unlikely. But actor Abhishek Bachchan, who co-owns the upcoming T20 league, the European T20 Premier League, has urged both players to be part of its set-up once they are done playing cricket for India. He said, “Please tell Virat and Rohit that when they retire, they could come and play in the ETPL before any other league.” The first edition of the ETPL will be played later this year in August with three teams from Amsterdam, Edinburgh and Belfast participating, and the official franchise names yet to be finalised.
Rising demand for Rohit Sharma and ViratKohli in overseas T20 leagues.
The rising demand for the two iconic Indian cricketers isn’t new. The likes of SA20, CPL, and the BBL have shown keen interest in bringing in some Indian star power to their leagues. However, as per the BCCI diktat, as long as a player remains an active cricketer and is part of the BCCI Central Contracts league, he/she is not allowed to represent any other league, barring the IPL.
