Rohit’s childhood coach, Dinesh Lad, spoke about how the batter plans to perform in the remainder of his ODI career.

Rohit Sharma is back in action with the limited series against Australia. At 38, he has shown no indication of leaving the ODI team. However, fans are curious about his future in ODIs, especially after he retired from T20Is and Test cricket. His childhood coach, Dinesh Lad, has something to say on this.

Dinesh Lad talks about Rohit’s thought process in his ODI career.

Rohit Sharma made a stunning 121* at the Sydney Cricket Ground, proving he still can bat India into winning positions. His childhood coach, Dinesh Lad, has now put to rest the rumours of his retirement. Speaking to PTI following his success in Australia, Lad commented about how Rohit let his batting do the talking after many argued for YashasviJaiswal to take his place ahead of the 2027 World Cup. He explained, “This is a special moment. There were talks that he was not performing, that he should stop playing cricket, but he played two good innings in the last two matches, 75 (73) first and now 120 (121*), and has shown he is still a top player who’ll still contribute to the country.”

Dinesh Lab highlights self-confidence as Rohit Sharma’s secret.

Lad, who has mentored Rohit since his youth cricket days in Mumbai, spoke about Rohit’s mentality and self-belief, noting that he had more to offer the team. He stated, “The only secret is his self-confidence. That’s why he hasn’t retired. He wants to play the 2027 World Cup and only retire after that, and he’s preparing for that.”

Rohit Sharma also won the player of the series honours after scoring 202 runs in the three matches in Australia. He is now all set to return to India and start preparing for the following ODI series against South Africa later this year.
