Intelligent eyewear with Gemini AI and Android XR marks a bold new era

Samsung has officially entered the smart glasses market with the launch of its Intelligent Eyewear, revealed at the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event in London. Unlike bulky augmented reality headsets, these glasses are designed to look and feel like everyday eyewear while delivering advanced AI-driven features.

Developed in collaboration with Google, Qualcomm, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker, the Intelligent Eyewear integrates Google Gemini AI, Samsung Bixby, and the Android XR platform into a lightweight frame. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 processor, the glasses promise seamless hands-free interaction, allowing users to access contextual information without pulling out their smartphones.

Design and Comfort

Samsung has emphasized style and wearability. The glasses come in multiple frame designs, colors, and lens options, thanks to partnerships with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. The slim, lightweight build ensures comfort for all-day use, making them practical for both professional and casual settings.

Features and Capabilities

The Intelligent Eyewear is equipped with a built-in camera, microphones, and open-ear speakers. A dedicated LED indicator lights up whenever the camera is active, addressing privacy concerns. Physical controls, including an action button and power switch, are subtly integrated into the frame.

Functionality goes far beyond simple notifications. The glasses can:

  • Translate languages in real time
  • Provide turn-by-turn navigation
  • Summarize incoming messages
  • Answer questions about objects in view using Gemini’s visual analysis

Samsung also showcased gesture-based controls when paired with the Galaxy Watch9, enabling users to interact with the glasses through simple hand movements.

Battery and Performance

Battery life is another highlight. The glasses deliver up to nine hours of continuous use, while the charging case offers seven additional recharges, ensuring they last through extended days without interruption.

Market Position and Availability

Samsung describes the Intelligent Eyewear as a premium product, though pricing details remain under wraps. The company has confirmed a rollout in select markets later in 2026, but availability in India and other regions is yet to be announced.
