Yet, the actress reveals that after reading the script, I can’t know, the content was so compelling.
Sonali Bendre is one of the most successful actresses in Bollywood. She was away from films for a long time because of her battle with cancer. She had been diagnosed with stage four metastatic cancer. The actress successfully beat the cancer. And she thought about returning to her acting career.
Though she considered a very light role, as she didn’t want to take on any role that could trigger her health issues, she made her comeback with the 2022 web show The Broken News. When she read the story, she was engrossed in the character and didn’t give it a second thought; she decided to do it. For which the actress says, Raakh changed everything.
While in an interview, the actress interacts; she now wants to do only lighter roles, keeping in mind her health; any role should not trigger her health. She has already faced a lot because of her cancer battle. After reading the script for Raakh, I was so compelled to do it.
Despite this, she said yes to playing the role of a grieving mother in Raakh, inspired by the infamous 1978 Ranga-Billa case. She admitted that ‘Raakh wasn’t something’ she was looking for and that she wasn’t open to starring in it, but she agreed to do the show after reading the script and realising how compelling the content was.
Sonali, however, did share her discontent over her limited screen time on the show. “It’s not the length I like. I would’ve loved to see more of me in the series. But I’m happy I took an opportunity because it has been a remarkably incredible experience.”
