Sumit Antil totally crushed it by winning the gold medal in the F64 javelin event at the World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan! This dude is on fire! He’s already a champ from the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics, and now he’s done it again with a throw of 69.50m.

Antil totally crushed the competition in the nine-man event. He started off strong with a throw of 68.17m and then totally blew everyone away with an even better throw on his second try. His next four throws were also super impressive, measuring 64.04m, 65.58m, 69.03m, and 68.08m. Antil was on fire!
Thangavelu Mariyappan and Ekta Bhyan
Thangavelu Mariyappan and Ekta Bhyan won gold medals for India. They were so awesome that India moved up to third place on the medals table. India won a total of five medals on the fifth day of the competition, bringing their overall count to 10 (4 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze).
Antil is a total rockstar in his sport and even holds the world record in his category. He threw a crazy 73.29m at the Para Asian Games last year and won the gold medal. His buddy Sandeep also did great and won the bronze with a throw of 60.41m. Sri Lanka’s Dulan Kodithuwakku snagged the silver with a throw of 66.49m.
Mariyappan, who won a silver medal in the Tokyo Paralympics, just scored a gold in the T63 high jump event! He jumped a whopping 1.88m, setting a new record for the championship. This is his first gold in a big competition in eight years. Back in 2016, he won gold in the T42 high jump at the Rio Paralympics and snagged a silver in the T63 category at the Tokyo Games in 2021. He also won silver in the T63 class at the Hangzhou Para Asian Games.

The T63 classification is for athletes who have a single leg amputation above the knee and compete using a prosthetic leg.
Ezra Frech and Sam Grewe from the United States won second and third place in the high jump event, with jumps of 1.85m and 1.82m.
Mariyappan’s Story
When Mariyappan was just five years old, he was hit by a bus while walking to school, which left him with a permanent disability in his right leg. The driver was found to be under the influence of something. Before becoming an athlete, Mariyappan worked as a newspaper seller and helped his mom support their family.
Ekta Bhyan, who won a bronze medal at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games, took home the gold in the women’s club throw event with a throw of 20.12m. Her friend Kashish Lakra won the silver with a throw of 14.56m.
About Ekta
Ekta, who is 38 years old, started playing sports after she was selected for the Haryana Civil Services. She also won a gold medal in the club throw event at the 2018 Para Asian Games in Jakarta. Ekta originally wanted to become a doctor, but a serious accident in 2003 changed her plans. She was in a cab that was crushed by a truck near Kundli in Sonepat on the Delhi-Haryana border. Although she suffered a spinal cord injury and is now in a wheelchair, she survived while six other people in the accident did not.
