A video has recently been trending on social media, showing a vendor resting his feet on a basket of open samosas on a moving train. This has sparked outrage among netizens, showing concerns over hygiene and unauthorized hawkers.

The vendor was resting his feet on a basket of samosas, which was kept open in a moving train.

The video, which has now gone viral on the internet, shows a food vendor sitting inside a moving train coach with his feet placed on a basket of samosas. This has triggered widespread online criticism and renewed concerns about hygiene practices on Indian trains. The clip, which spread rapidly across social media platforms, captured the vendor sitting near the entrance area of a coach while casually speaking on his phone. What shocked viewers, however, was the sight of his feet resting directly on the tray of samosas that were allegedly being sold to passengers onboard.

Netizens react to the viral video.

As the video gained traction online, users flooded social media with reactions questioning the cleanliness and food safety standards maintained during train travel. Several people expressed frustration over the continued presence of unauthorized hawkers inside trains despite repeated railway regulations and monitoring efforts. Many users pointed out that train passengers often have little choice but to buy snacks from onboard vendors during long-distance journeys, making hygiene an especially sensitive issue. The image of uncovered food being handled carelessly inside a crowded moving train quickly became symbolic of larger concerns that passengers have raised over the years about unregulated food sales on railway routes.

Following the backlash, railway authorities initiated an enquiry into the matter and later released an official statement addressing the incident. According to the statement, officials were unable to identify the individual in the video as an authorized onboard staff member during the review period. The Railways clarified that no such personnel had been officially deployed on Train No. 12809-10 between May 20 and May 22, 2026. The statement suggested that the person seen in the clip was likely an unauthorized hawker rather than a railway-approved vendor.
