A shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district involved a bride who ended her marriage in 20 minutes after feeling that her in-laws were unfriendly. The bride refused to stay with her in-laws and alleged unfriendly behaviour after reaching their residence, leading to the dissolution of the marriage. As per a report in Bhaskar English, the incident happened during the ‘DulhaChehraDikhai’ ceremony in front of family members and the neighbourhood on November 26, a day after their marriage.

When the bride arrived at her in-laws’ residence, she abruptly stopped a ritual and demanded to call her parents immediately, as reported. Despite several attempts by her husband and his family to pacify her, she refused to stay. Her parents arrived shortly afterwards and also tried to convince her. However, the bride, who was allegedly unhappy with her in-laws’ behaviour, refused to change her decision. Later, a local panchayat was convened, and after nearly five hours of discussion, the marriage ended by mutual consent. The items and gifts exchanged during the wedding were returned, and the bride left with her family.
