Anand Mahindra shares a video of a heartfelt moment between a grandfather and his grandson.
The video, which has now gone viral on the internet, showcases a grandfather teaching his grandson a Gujarati folk dance. He said that the clip offered comfort by showing tradition and memory passing between generations. The Indian industrialist Anand Mahindra shared a video of an elderly man teaching his grandson traditional Gujarati folk dance. The clip has since gone viral for the duo’s energetic performance and emotional portrayal of traditions being passed across generations. Captioning the post, Anand Mahindra wrote on X, “I’m not sure why I paused on this clip when it appeared on my timeline. I don’t even know the name of the dance form (apparently it’s from Saurashtra), but it shows a grandfather teaching his grandson the steps. Yes, the dance itself is wonderful. Full of energy, joy and life. The kind that makes you want to join in. But what really drew me in was what this clip symbolised: the passing on of tradition, rhythm and memory from one generation to the next. In today’s uncertain world, I found that strangely comforting. That not everything around you will change. It was a reassurance of continuity.”

Netizens react to the viral video.
Social media users soon joined the discussion, with several identifying the performance as a traditional form of Garba or Raas associated with communities from the Saurashtra region. One user said the dance was a traditional Garba step from the Ahir community of Saurashtra and noted that even many Gujaratis would struggle to perform it with such precision and energy. One user reacted, “One of the most powerful things in this video isn’t the dance, it’s watching a legacy being passed from one generation to the next.” Some others identified the performance as ManiyaroRaas, a traditional folk dance associated with the Mher community living in coastal areas between Somnath and Porbandar in Gujarat.
