A liquor shop owner in Sector 9 market was arrested after videos surfaced online showing alcohol being openly served outside the store in an unusual form, poured over ice golas, commonly known as snow cones. The clips quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing shock, amusement, and criticism in equal measure. In the videos, a group of men can be seen preparing colourful ice golas and topping them with alcohol before distributing them publicly in the crowded market area. The open serving of alcohol in a public space raised concerns over whether the activity violated excise laws and public conduct regulations.

As the videos gained traction online, the issue caught the attention of local authorities. Chandigarh Police launched an investigation and later arrested the liquor vendor connected to the promotional activity. During the inquiry, officials reportedly discovered that flavoured vodka had been used in the golas being distributed outside the shop. Confirming the action taken, Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav said an FIR had been registered against those responsible for organising the public alcohol-serving arrangement. Authorities also issued a warning to liquor licence holders across the city, making it clear that promotional activities involving public consumption of alcohol would not be tolerated if they violated the Excise Policy. Officials stressed that such events cannot be conducted openly in public spaces, especially in crowded commercial areas where families and minors may also be present.

The incident has since sparked a wider debate online. While some users treated the incident as meme-worthy content and flooded social media with jokes around the phrase “Liquor Langar,” others criticised the organisers for trivialising alcohol consumption in a public setting. Many argued that public places should not become spaces for open alcohol promotions, especially when such activities can encourage irresponsible behaviour or attract large crowds.
