More than 200 vehicles were gutted by the fire that occurred at Varanasi’s Cantt railway station.

In a tragic incident, more than 200 vehicles were gutted after fire broke out at Varanasi’s Cantt railway station. However, after a 2-hour operation, the flames were brought under control. The massive fire engulfed the vehicle parking area of the station in the early hours of Saturday, resulting in the destruction of at least 200 two-wheelers.

Dramatic footage emerged after fire broke out at the parking area of Varanasi’s Cantt railway station. The footage showed how towering flames consumed the parking lot as the fire brigade and police officials worked tirelessly to extinguish the blaze. According to a report by NDTV, the fire department could distinguish and control the flames after a 2-hour operation. A police team was also deployed in the operation and used a water hose to combat the inferno, surrounded by thick smoke and haze, the report stated further.

Emergency response teams were quickly mobilized.

Emergency response teams quickly mobilized with around 12 fire brigade vehicles arriving on the scene, accompanied by personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local police. No injuries were reported fortunately stemming from this devastating fire incident.

The cause of the fire.

Initial investigations have revealed that a short circuit likely caused the fire at the Cantt railway station’s parking lot.Eyewitnesses said that the short circuit occurred around 10.30 pm on Saturday, after which electricians were called to fix the same; however, another short circuit occurred a few hours later, which caused sparks to ignite petrol in one of the motorcycles, triggering the fire.

CO GRP Kunwar Bahadur Singh said, “Some bicycles were also caught in the flames.” He confirmed that they are pursuing a thorough investigation. Several vehicles destroyed belonged to railway employees.
