Serena and Venus Williams have reunited on the doubles court at the US Open, marking their first Grand Slam appearance together since 2022. The legendary duo, who boast 14 major doubles titles, begin their campaign against 14th seeds Chan Hao-Ching and Maya Joint- a formidable opening challenge that sets the tone for their return.

The sisters’ doubles journey began nearly three decades ago in 1997, producing memorable triumphs in New York in 1999 and 2009. Yet, their last victory as a team came at Roland Garros in 2018. Their most recent outing, in Cincinnati just weeks ago, ended in a narrow defeat in a deciding tie-break against Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns, underscoring the competitive test they now face.

Chan and Joint, though a relatively new partnership, have already made waves on the tour. They reached the final in Memphis, advanced to the second round in Toronto, and made the quarterfinals in Cincinnati. Joint also carries personal momentum, having defeated Serena in her singles comeback at Wimbledon earlier this year. Chan, meanwhile, has history against the sisters, famously ousting them in Beijing 2013 alongside Liezel Huber.

If Serena and Venus overcome their first-round opponents, they will meet either Nicole Fossa Huergo and Tamara Korpatsch or Jesika Maleckova and Miriam Skoch in the next round. A potential third-round clash against fourth seeds Hsieh Su-Wei and Jelena Ostapenko could follow, adding further intrigue to their path.

Elsewhere in the draw, top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend open against American wild cards Reese Brantmeier and Savannah Broadus. Siniakova, a former US Open champion with Barbora Krejcikova, now partners Townsend, who has twice finished runner-up in New York. Defending champions Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe have split this season, with Dabrowski joining Luisa Stefani and Routliffe pairing with Aldila Sutjiadi. Former champion Sara Errani also returns, teaming up with 18-year-old Lilli Tagger against American twins Annika and Kristina Penickova.

Despite the depth of talent across the field, much of the spotlight will inevitably fall on Serena and Venus.
