Imran Tahir continues to prove that time has not diminished his mastery of spin bowling. At 47 years and 167 days, the South African veteran etched his name into cricketing history by becoming the oldest player to claim a five-wicket haul in men’s T20 cricket. His remarkable figures of 5/17 for Guyana Amazon Warriors against Saint Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League showcased both skill and resilience.

Saint Lucia began brightly, with Kamil Pooran giving them momentum during the Power Play. However, Tahir’s introduction shifted the balance dramatically. He struck twice in his opening overs, removing Pooran and Roston Chase, before returning later to dismantle the lower order. McKenny Clarke and Matthew Forde were bowled in quick succession, while Joshua Bishop fell lbw to complete Tahir’s five-for. To underline his all-round impact, Tahir also held the catch that ended the Kings’ innings at 119.

This achievement surpassed the previous record set by Cook Islands spinner Tomakanute Ritawa, who managed 5/19 against Fiji at 46 years and 299 days in 2022. Tahir himself had already featured prominently on the list, with five-wicket hauls at 46 and 44 years of age. His latest effort means he now occupies three of the top five spots among the oldest players to achieve this feat in T20 cricket.

Guyana chased down the modest target in 18.3 overs. Quentin Sampson’s explosive unbeaten 37 off just 11 balls provided the finishing touch, guiding the Warriors to a four-wicket victory and restoring them to the top of the CPL standings.

Tahir’s sixth five-wicket haul in the format and his fourth since turning 40- is a testament to his extraordinary longevity.
