After a prolonged battle with cancer, Anshuman Gaekwad passed away at 71.

Earlier, it was reported how the former Indian cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad was suffering from cancer and how other former Indian cricketers like Sandeep Patil and Kapil Dev requested the BCCI to aid him financially. However, on Wednesday, Anshuman Gaekwad passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer

Anshuman Gaekwad passes away at 71.

Former Indian cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad has passed away at 71 after battling cancer for a long time. He played for India in 40 Tests and 15 ODIs from 1975 to 1987, scoring 1985 runs in Tests. His highest score in the format was 201 against Pakistan in a marathon 11-hour innings. He also coached India’s men’s team from 1997 to 1999 and then in 2000.

Jay Shah, BCCI Secretary, took to his official X account and paid his last respects to Anshuman Gaekwad, his family, and friends. He wrote, “My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr Anshuman Gaekwad. Heartbreaking for the entire cricket fraternity. May his soul rest in peace.”

BCCI earlier had pledged Rs. 1 crore to support ailing Gaekwad.

In a heartfelt gesture, the BCCI earlier pledged Rs. 1 crore to support the former Indian cricketer who was battling cancer. The BCCI personally reached out to his family to offer assistance during the tough times. In a press conference, the BCCI assured significant aid for Gaekwad’s family, expressing optimism in his fast recovery.

Anshuman Gaekwad’s critical condition was brought to light by former cricketer Sandeep Patil, who revealed that Gaekwad had been battling cancer for over a year and receiving treatment in London. This prompted former cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar to contact BCCI Treasurer Ashish Shelar, who promised to address the financial aid request.
