One more case of a gangrape of a woman has made the headlines. The horrific incident happened in Kolkata and involved a 20-year-old woman. She was gangraped by two men in an upscale locality in Kolkata after her birthday party.

A 20-year-old woman was gangraped in Kolkata in an upscale society after her birthday party. The news has already shaken the entire nation. The incident took place in the Regent Park area, located in the southern outskirts of the city, recently. The two accused, who went missing after the crime, were identified as Chandan Malik and Deep. The latter reportedly is a government employee. As per the police, the survivor from Haridevpur alleged that the assault happened when Chandan took her to Deep’s house on the pretext of celebrating her birthday.

One of the police sources said, “The woman’s birthday was on Friday. On that occasion, the accused Chandan and Deep took the victim to the latter’s flat. There, they had a meal. She said that when she wanted to return home, the accused stopped her. They allegedly locked the door and gangraped her.” The source added that the survivor managed to escape only around 10:30 am on Saturday. After returning home, she informed her family members about the incident, following which a First Information Report (FIR) was registered under relevant sections on Saturday. The officer said, “We have started a search for the accused who are absconding.”

The woman stated in her complaint that she was introduced to Chandan several months prior. He introduced herself as the head of a large Durga Puja committee in south Kolkata. Through him, she was introduced to Deep, and the three were in touch with one another. In her complaint, she also stated that the two accused had promised to involve her in the puja committee.
