A final year BSc student of biotechnology in UP died by suicide over stress about her upcoming wedding.

A shocking incident made to the headlines involving a final year BSc student of biotechnology from Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University who died by suicide over stress about her upcoming wedding. She was a resident of Kotwalpur village and stayed in room no. 35 at Laxmibai Women’s Hostel.

The young girl committed suicide by hanging herself in her hostel room after talking to her fiancé over the phone, said the police on Wednesday. According to her hostelmates, Shivangi, now deceased, was engaged in a loud conversation around 11 pm. When the noise subsided, they called her, but she didn’t respond. The incident occurred on Tuesday night in Jaunpur, when Shivangi Mishra, 22, who was set to tie the knot with her fiancé on November 25, reportedly took the extreme step, said Kaustubh, Superintendent of Police.

The final year BSc student stayed in room no. 35 of her hostel, where reportedly she hung herself and died by suicide. After her hostelmates made repeated knocks on her door, which went unanswered, the other students alerted the hostel warden, who informed the university authorities. They broke open the door and found Mishra hanging from the ceiling fan with a ‘dupatta’ tied around her neck, said the SP.

Shivangi was immediately rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival, said the officer. He added that the body had been sent for autopsy. The SP said, “Preliminary inquiries suggest that she may have been under stress over her upcoming wedding. However, police are probing the case from all possible angles.”
