Baba Siddiqui shot dead: The Indian politician’s security was upgraded to Y category after receiving death threats

Baba Siddiqui had received death threats 15 days ago and was shot dead outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddiqui’s officer in Bandra East.

On Saturday night, Baba Siddiqui of the NCP was shot at outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddiqui’s office near Colgate ground in Nirmal Nagar, Bandra East in Mumbai. The three-time MLA joined NCP in February of this year. He had received a death threat 15 days ago, following which his security was upgraded to Y category.

What happened with Baba Siddiqui?

Nationalist Congress Party’s Baba Siddiqui received a death threat 15 days ago. He was shot outside his MLA son’s office in Mumbai’s Bandra. However, he succumbed to the bullet injuries at the Lilavati Hospital shortly after the attack. As per the police, his security was beefed up to the Y category after he had received a threat to his life. Mumbai police said that two assailants have since been arrested, and one is still at large.

Opposition demands CM Eknath Shinde’s resignation.

Opposition leaders demanded CM Eknath Shinde’s resignation and also of his deputies like Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar. They asked how the government would protect common people if they couldn’t protect a political leader with Y-category security cover. Congress called Baba Siddiqui’s death a “massive loss” to the people of Maharashtra. Congress leader KC Venugopal said, “This incident is a serious indictment of the crumbling law and order situation in Maharashtra. Siddique ji had on multiple occasions intimated the authorities about the threats to his life, and he suffered despite being under Y plus security. That this shooting took place on the road, in the middle of bustling markets, shows that criminals no longer fear the law in Maharashtra.”

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said, “It is a very disturbing incident. Baba Siddique, a three-time MLA and someone who had Y security, was shot dead in Mumbai’s Bandra. Is there any law and order in Mumbai? If this could happen to a known personality, then how can common people consider themselves safe?”
