Nutritionist Lovneet Batra highlights seven traditional foods that aid metabolism, digestion, and healthy weight loss.

For many people, green tea has become the go-to drink when trying to shed belly fat. While it does offer some benefits, nutritionist Lovneet Batra emphasizes that no single beverage can magically melt away stubborn fat. Sustainable weight loss, she explains, comes from a combination of balanced eating, regular physical activity, and smart food choices.

Instead of relying solely on green tea, Batra recommends incorporating certain Indian foods into daily routines. These ingredients, rooted in traditional practices, can help improve digestion, regulate blood sugar, and support fat metabolism.

Cumin (Zeera): Known for boosting metabolism, cumin water is a simple morning ritual. Soaking a teaspoon overnight and drinking it on an empty stomach, or boiling it for a warm infusion, may help reduce fat.

Fenugreek Seeds (Methi Dana): These seeds help stabilize blood sugar levels and reduce cravings. Drinking the soaked water and chewing the seeds in the morning can be particularly effective.

Carom Seeds (Ajwain): Ajwain is valued for its ability to reduce bloating and enhance digestion. Chewing the seeds after meals or consuming them as a warm drink can provide quick relief from discomfort.

Cinnamon (Dalchini): This spice is widely recognized for its ability to regulate blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity. Adding half a teaspoon to tea, porridge, or warm water can support metabolic health.

Turmeric (Haldi): Famous for its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric also aids fat metabolism. Batra suggests mixing fresh turmeric with black pepper and a small amount of ghee in warm water each morning to enhance absorption.

Fennel Seeds (Saunf): Saunf supports digestion and hormonal balance. Consuming a teaspoon after meals or sipping fennel water during the day can help maintain gut health.

Triphala: This traditional Ayurvedic blend promotes liver health and fat metabolism. Starting with half a teaspoon of Triphala powder in warm water before bedtime and gradually increasing the dose can be beneficial.

Batra stresses that these foods are not quick fixes but supportive tools in a holistic approach to weight management. When combined with mindful eating and regular exercise, they can help reduce belly fat naturally and sustainably.

Ultimately, the message is clear: green tea alone won’t deliver dramatic results. A diverse diet rich in traditional Indian ingredients, paired with an active lifestyle, is the key to achieving long-term health and fitness.
