The husband, Nikesh Patel, allegedly chose to trade his wife’s freedom and dignity for a mere fifty thousand rupees because he disliked her.

A shocking case made the headlines from Gujarat’s Banaskantha, where a man who allegedly disliked his wife, sold her for a mere fifty thousand. The wife was then gang-raped. According to police officials, the accused husband, Nikesh Patel, allegedly orchestrated the entire crime after admitting that he “did not like” his wife. Investigators claim he conspired with several accomplices and allegedly accepted ₹50,000 in exchange for handing her over to a group of men.

The husband filed a missing complaint of his wife, raising suspicion.

The case began on May 19, when Patel approached the Palanpur West Police Station to report his wife missing. Patel reportedly portrayed himself as a worried husband searching for his wife, attempting to avoid suspicion. However, as the investigation progressed, police officials noticed inconsistencies in his statements. Under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Dr JigneshGamit, investigators closely examined timelines and questioned Patel repeatedly. The contradictions eventually led officers to suspect that something far more sinister had taken place. During interrogation, Patel allegedly confessed to his involvement in the crime. Police claim he admitted to planning the act along with his associates, identified as Sanjay Thakor, Ashok Thakor, and Sachin Darbar.

The woman was rescued after a police operation.

Following the confession, police launched a rescue operation and managed to trace the woman to a secluded location where she had allegedly been confined against her will. Authorities safely rescued her and returned her to police protection. In her statement, the survivor reportedly described a horrifying ordeal. She alleged that she was sexually assaulted and gang-raped during captivity. She also told investigators that her gold jewellery was forcibly taken away and later sold. According to police sources, the accused had allegedly lured her under the pretext of travelling before transporting her to another location and handing her over to other individuals involved in the network. Based on the survivor’s testimony and evidence collected during the investigation, police have registered serious charges, including human trafficking, gang rape, robbery, and criminal conspiracy.

So far, seven accused individuals, including the husband and his alleged accomplices, have been arrested. Authorities say the investigation is still ongoing, and more details may emerge in the coming days.
