Government Releases Names of Six Brave Soldiers Added to National War Memorial.
The Government of India has formally acknowledged the sacrifice of six-armed forces personnel who lost their lives during Operation Sindoor, a decisive military campaign carried out in May 2025. Their names have now been etched into the Roll of Honour and inscribed on Wall 3D at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, ensuring their legacy stands alongside thousands of others who gave their lives in service to the nation.
This marks the first time the government has publicly disclosed the identities of those killed in the operation, which was launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 civilians were killed.
The honoured personnel include:
- Subedar Major Pawan Kumar (Indian Army)
- Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Vir Chakra (Indian Army)
- Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar (Indian Army)
- Aviation Technician Mood Muralinaik (Indian Army)
- Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh (Indian Army)
- Sergeant Surendra Kumar, Vayu Medal (Indian Air Force)
Operation Sindoor began on May 7, 2025, with India striking terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The campaign also targeted key Pakistani Air Force bases, including Nur Khan Air Base and Rahim Yar Khan Air Base. At the same time, Indian forces successfully repelled retaliatory drone, missile, and cross-border attacks.
The four-day conflict concluded on May 10, 2025, when both India and Pakistan agreed to halt military operations. Despite the brevity of the hostilities, the operation underscored India’s resolve to respond firmly to acts of terror and safeguard its citizens.
By inscribing these names at the National War Memorial, the nation has ensured that the courage and sacrifice of these six soldiers will never be forgotten. Their inclusion is not only a tribute to their bravery but also a reminder of the heavy price paid in defending the country against threats to its sovereignty.
