Two sisters, aged eight and five, died of suffocation after being trapped in a parked car in Rajasthan for nearly 30 minutes.
A shocking incident happened in Alwar, Rajasthan, where two sisters, aged eight and five, who were inside a parked car, died amid intense heat. The two sisters died of suffocation after being trapped in a parked car for nearly 30 minutes, said police on Thursday. This case comes as North India continues to reel under an intense heatwave.
Two sisters in Rajasthan died due to suffocation in a parked car.
According to police officials, eight-year-old Tina and five-year-old Lakshmi had stepped out near their home on Wednesday afternoon to play, just like they usually did. While playing around the neighbourhood, the sisters reportedly wandered near a local car service centre where several vehicles were parked. Investigators believe the girls entered one of the parked cars out of curiosity or while playing a game. However, the doors are suspected to have locked accidentally, trapping the children inside the vehicle under the scorching afternoon sun.
Search ended in a devastating discovery.
When the girls did not return home for a long time, their family members and neighbours began searching frantically across the area. After a desperate search, the children were eventually found unconscious inside the parked vehicle. Police officer Gurudutt Sharma said the girls were immediately rushed for medical help, but doctors declared them dead on arrival. Authorities suspect suffocation caused by extreme heat inside the locked vehicle led to the tragedy. The tragedy becomes even more painful knowing the girls had already lost their mother four years ago. Their father, Ramesh, had been raising both daughters alone while living in a rented house in Alwar.
With Rajasthan battling severe heatwave conditions, temperatures inside the locked car are believed to have risen rapidly within minutes. Experts often warn that vehicles parked under direct sunlight can become dangerously hot, even in a short span of time. A CCTV clip that surfaced online reportedly shows the two sisters entering the car while playing. Local reports suggest they may have remained trapped inside for nearly half an hour before anyone noticed.
