Rajasthan man allegedly kills elderly woman taking inspiration from the thriller “Drishyam.”
A man in Udaipur took inspiration from the thriller Drishyam. He allegedly killed an elderly woman, burnt her body and dumped the remains in a lake, hoping that he would get away scot-free if police didn’t find the body. The accused, Ramesh Lohar, is a class 5 dropout who enjoys watching thrillers and true crime shows, such as Crime Patrol. He told the police he chose to kill the woman, Chandi Bai, as he wanted to steal her jewellery, said Udaipur Assistant Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar.
More about the heinous murder in Rajasthan.
The accused saw Chandi Bai, who belonged to the Dholi caste, playing drums at an event on January 9. She was wearing heavy silver and gold jewellery, said the ASP. On February 22, Ramesh lured Chandi Bai into his van by offering her ₹1,100 to perform for a function. He then drove around for hours and switched off his mobile phone to mislead the authorities. He took her to an isolated location at night and hit her multiple times on the head with a screwdriver, said Kumar. The accused took off her jewellery, switched off her mobile phone and threw her bag along with the mobile phone into a nearby jungle, said the officer.
The accused, Ramesh, drove to a dumping yard, covered her body with debris and set it on fire. The next morning, he collected the woman’s remains and dumped them in a lake. He believes, just like in the movie Drishyam, he wouldn’t get caught if the body wasn’t found, as per the ASP.
