Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Emergency was slated to release on September 6, but it has now been pushed back by two weeks.
Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut has now reacted to the take given by the Bombay High Court on her latest film, Emergency. She has also given her reaction to the delay in clearing her upcoming film by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Kangana Ranaut shared a tweet by Live Law.
Taking to X, the actress and MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, shared a tweet by Live Law. She wrote, “High court has blasted censor for illegally withholding the certificate of #emergency.” According to PTI, the court refused to pass any order in the wake of a directive by the Madhya Pradesh HC directing CBFC to consider objections to the motive before certifying it.
What did the Bombay High Court say on the matter?
On Wednesday, Justices B P Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla, a division bench, accepted the producer’s contention that the certificate was kept ready but not issued. The bench also said that once the certification was issued online to the film’s makers, the CBFC’s contention that the certificate wasn’t issued as the chairperson did not sign it is incorrect. It also noted that the court would’ve directed the CBFC to issue the certification itself had there not been an order from the Madhya Pradesh High Court. During the petitioner’s hearing filed by Zee Entertainment, the Bombay HC said that while it was with the petitioner on the issue, it could not grant any relief in the wake of the order passed by the Madhya HC.
Emergency, a biographical drama starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead, among others, was scheduled to release on September 6. However, it has been pushed back by two weeks due to a controversy. Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, objected and accused it of misrepresenting the community and distorting historical facts.
