Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to attend the statehood’s golden jubilee celebrations at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok on May 29. For the smooth conduct of the event, temporary office and school closures have also been announced.

PM Modi is scheduled to attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Sikkim’s statehood at the Paljor Stadium on May 29, according to an official notification. Formal invitations have been extended to all officers, from the rank of deputy secretary and under-secretary (and their equivalents) to staff members of various state government departments, PSUs, and central government agencies in Gangtok, the Home Department notification said on Tuesday evening.

The invitees have been requested to attend the event in their traditional attires and be seated by 8.30 am on May 29 in the western gallery of the stadium, it said. The secretaries and department heads have been instructed to ensure the presence of their respective officers and staff. Earlier, the Sikkim government had issued an advisory concerning the temporary closures of offices and schools in Gangtok. Vehicular movements will also be restricted to facilitate the smooth conduct of the event.
PM Modi will commence his 2-day visit from Sikkim, where he will participate in the “Sikkim@50: Where Progress meets purpose and nature nurtures growth” programme at around 11 am. He will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects in Sikkim. Projects include the Passenger Ropeway at Sangachoeling, the Statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji at Atal Amrit Udyan at Sangkhola in Gangtok district, a new 500-bedded District hospital worth over ₹750 crore in Namchi district, and Pelling in Gyalshing district.
