On Tuesday at 10.30 pm, Jayanta Sen, a taxi driver, was beaten by five people over a parking issue in Jadavpur, Kolkata. He reportedly suffered internal haemorrhaging in his abdomen and was taken to the hospital; however, he succumbed to his injuries.

Five men allegedly beat a 38-year-old taxi driver named Jayanta Sen over a parking dispute in Kolkata’s Jadavpur area. No arrests have been made thus far in the case. The investigation revealed that Sen, a resident of Bijoygarh, was returning home from work around 10.30 pm when he allegedly knocked down on Tuesday a 2-wheeler that was parked. On Friday, he succumbed to his injuries, according to the family.
What happened to the taxi driver?
According to the investigation, Sen had parked his taxi a few metres from his house in Bijoygarh like every day when he allegedly knocked down a 2-wheeler that was parked too. A few hours later, five unknown youths arrived at his home, called him out and beat him up. Sen’s family tried to intervene, but they couldn’t stop the assault. Prasanta Sen, the deceased’s brother, said, “He was beaten up mercilessly by the five of them. The doctors said he had internal haemorrhaging in his abdomen. We admitted him to the hospital, and he succumbed on Friday. We want those responsible for this to be punished according to the law.”
The police have registered a case under culpable homicide not amounting to murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
