Law Student Dies, Woman Hospitalized Amid Alcohol-Drug Probe
A 28-year-old law student lost his life after collapsing during a techno music event at Mumbai’s NSCI Dome on Saturday evening. The victim, identified as Vrushabh Gangurde, was rushed to Breach Candy Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Prima facia looks the death tro be caused from excessive alcohol consumption, although they have not ruled out the possibility of drug involvement. The exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination. The Police department have registered an report as Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are reviewing CCTV footage and electronic evidence to look in for more details. The Mumbai Crime Branch has also initiated a parallel inquiry.
One more incident reported from the same concert was that of an 31-year-old woman who collapsed after consuming alcohol mixed with energy drinks. She was admitted to Jaslok Hospital, where her condition was stabilized. The woman has reportedly denied taking any narcotic substances.
This incident has revived concerns about safety and substance abuse at large-scale music festivals. Just two months earlier, two management students allegedly died of a suspected drug overdose at a techno concert held at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon. This case has further led to the arrest of ten other individuals, including students and alleged drug suppliers, accused of circulating ecstasy tablets at the venue.
Authorities fear that despite heightened awareness; narcotics continue to find their way into such gatherings. The April tragedy had already sparked debate over the adequacy of security checks and anti-narcotics measures at entertainment venues. The latest episode underscores the urgent need for stricter monitoring and preventive action to ensure the safety of concertgoers.
As investigations continue, the authorities are keen to determine whether alcohol alone caused the fatal collapse or if drugs were involved. The outcome of the post-mortem and forensic analysis will be key to understand more details of the inquiry.
