The police have stated that the incident took place when the five young tribal girls were returning home from a wedding in the Rania area of Jharkhand. In the horrifying gang-rape case, the police have arrested 18 minor boys.

Police have arrested 18 minor boys in connection with the alleged gang-rape of five minor tribal girls in Jharkhand’s Khunti, according to the reports. The police said that the accused boys above 16 would be tried as adults, as reported by news agency ANI. News agency quoted DGP Anurag Gupta saying, “18 boys have been arrested. All the boys are minors, all the rape survivor girls, in this case, they are being provided all the government facilities.”

The DGP further said that the boys above 16 would be tried as adults “so that in our society, boys wouldn’t do such dirty acts.” Earlier, police officials had confirmed to the news agency PTI that the accused minors, aged between 12-17, had been sent to a juvenile home. On Monday, the tribal girls who were allegedly gang-raped underwent medical examinations also.
What was the incident?
On Friday, the disturbing incident took place in Jharkhand late at night, when the five tribal girls, out of which three were between the ages of 12-16, were raped by the boys as per the police complaint filed by family members. The girls were coming back home after attending a wedding ceremony in Rania. Khunti SP Aman Kumar said, “The incident came to the fore on Sunday after the complaint was filed at Rania police station.”
After a complaint was lodged, the police set up a team and promptly arrested the 18 minors.
