Warning Follows Collapse of US-Iran Peace Agreement

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has sounded an urgent alarm over what it described as “potential missile threats,” urging residents to seek immediate shelter in secure buildings. The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) made the announcement, confirming that the country’s air defence systems had detected incoming threats aimed at Emirati territory.

This marks the first such warning in months and comes at a critical juncture- just a day after the expiration of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States that had temporarily halted hostilities in the Middle East.

According to the UAE’s interior ministry, the public should remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movement, and rely only on official channels for updates. The defence ministry echoed these concerns, saying it had detected missile activity and was enforcing precautionary measures nationwide.

The warning follows a reported attack on an Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, allegedly carried out by Iranian forces. In response, the UAE foreign ministry condemned the incident, calling on Tehran to cease “unprovoked attacks” and reopen the strategic waterway to ensure safe passage for global shipping.

The UAE has been one of the hardest-hit nations since the regional war erupted on February 28, 2026. Nearly 3,000 missiles and drones have targeted the country, more than any other Gulf state. While the MoU signed in June temporarily halted these assaults, its collapse has reignited tensions.

The agreement, signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, sought to end months of devastating conflict. It called for an immediate cessation of military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon, and promised a broader settlement within 60 days. The deal also required the US to lift sanctions, ease restrictions on Iranian oil exports, and provide a $300 billion reconstruction package. In return, Iran pledged to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz and reaffirmed its commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons.

With the MoU now expired, the fragile peace has unravelled, leaving the Gulf region once again on edge. The UAE’s latest missile alert underscores the situation’s volatility and the urgent need for renewed diplomacy to prevent further escalation.
