Amid the Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy, reports suggest that Naqvi apologised to the BCCI but created new drama around the trophy handover.
On Sunday, at the Dubai International Stadium, India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 finals. However, Team India refused to receive the trophy from the hands of the ACC Chief and Pakistan Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who was present on stage. This led Naqvi to leave the stadium with the trophy and take it to his hotel. However, reports now suggest that Naqvi has apologised to the BCCI.
Reports say that Mohsin Naqvi apologised to the BCCI.
The Asia Cup 2025 trophy standoff continues as ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi apologises to BCCI for chaotic post-final scenes. This marks a significant development in the trophy and medals saga. It is reported that Naqvi has now apologised to the BCCI for the chaotic post-final scenes on September 28. However, the standoff over the silverware persists. As reported by India Today, Naqvi softened his tone at the ACC meeting on September 30. But the ACC Chief maintained that if India wants the trophy and medals, their captain should collect them from the ACC office in Dubai. India, however, has rejected Naqvi’s condition, arguing that there was no such requirement on the final night and demanded a protocol handover governed by the ACC rules, not ad-hoc diktats.
BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla said this to the ACC.
Rajiv Shukla, BCCI vice-president, told the ACC that the trophy belongs to the council, and not to any individual. He slammed Naqvi for taking the trophy and the medals with him without a proper handover. The BCCI’s message is clear: an apology is accepted, but the trophy must be handed over as per protocol.
Earlier, BCCI secretaryDevajitSaikia said, “We have decided not to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the senior leaders of Pakistan. That was a conscious decision.” He added, “This does not give him the right to take the trophy and the medals with him. It is extremely unfortunate and unsportsmanlike. We hope the trophy medals will be returned to India as soon as possible.”
