Actor seeks urgent relief over film allegedly exploiting his persona.

The Delhi High Court will take up Salman Khan’s plea on June 19, 2026, in a case that pits the Bollywood star against the makers of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy. Khan argues that the film unlawfully exploits his identity by drawing parallels to the blackbuck hunting controversy that has shadowed him for decades.

His petition, filed under Order XXXIX Rules 1 and 2 of the Code of Civil Procedure, seeks an immediate injunction to stop the film’s production, promotion, and release. The suit names producer Amit Jani, Jani FireFox Films, director Bharat Shrinate, Akshay Pandey, and others associated with the project.

Although the film’s makers do not mention Salman Khan by name, the actor argues that the movie posters, trailers, and public statements make him unmistakably identifiable. According to the petition, these promotional tactics are designed to capitalize on his public image and past legal troubles, thereby violating his personality rights.

The movie producer Amit Jani described the film as inspired by the blackbuck case and linked it to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Khan’s lawyers argue that such references are deliberate attempts to generate buzz by tying the narrative to his life.

On April 24, 2026, Khan had already issued a legal notice demanding that the filmmakers halt development and publicity. Despite this, promotional activity allegedly continued, prompting him to seek judicial intervention. His plea asks the court to block teasers, posters, trailers, and any other promotional material until the matter is resolved.

The producers, meanwhile, claim they have faced death threats since the dispute escalated, underscoring the tension surrounding the project.

The controversy dates back to the 1998 blackbuck-hunting case in Rajasthan. While several actors, including Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam, and Sonali Bendre, were acquitted, Salman Khan was convicted in 2018 and sentenced to five years in prison before securing bail.

The upcoming verdict by the Delhi Court will decide whether the movie gets the nod for further making and release.
